Sydänläppäongelmat, also known as valvulopatiat, refer to abnormalities or diseases of the heart valves. The heart has four valves: the mitral valve, tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve, and aortic valve. Each valve has a specific function: the mitral and tricuspid valves regulate blood flow from the atria to the ventricles, while the pulmonary and aortic valves regulate blood flow from the ventricles to the lungs and body, respectively.

Valvulopatiat can be caused by various factors, including rheumatic fever, infections, degenerative changes due to aging, or congenital abnormalities. Symptoms may include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of a physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram, and sometimes cardiac catheterization.

Treatment options depend on the severity and type of valvulopathy. Mild cases may not require treatment, while moderate to severe cases may need medical management, valve repair, or valve replacement. Medical management involves medications to control symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. Valve repair is typically performed using minimally invasive techniques, such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for aortic valve disease. Valve replacement involves surgically removing the damaged valve and replacing it with a mechanical or tissue valve.

Prevention strategies include managing risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, as well as vaccinations to prevent infections that can cause valvulopatiat. Regular medical check-ups and early detection are crucial for managing and treating valvulopatiat effectively.
