Sweatshops
Sweatshops are workplaces where workers are subjected to poor working conditions, low wages, and long hours, often in order to maximize profits for the employer. The term "sweatshop" is often used to describe factories or workshops where these conditions are prevalent, but it can also apply to other types of workplaces, such as call centers or retail stores. Sweatshops are typically characterized by the following features:
- Low wages: Workers in sweatshops often earn minimum wage or less, which can make it difficult
- Long hours: Workers may be required to work long hours, including overtime, without adequate compensation.
- Poor working conditions: Sweatshops may lack proper safety equipment, ventilation, or lighting, and may have inadequate
- Lack of job security: Workers in sweatshops may be hired on a temporary basis, making it difficult
- Exploitation: Sweatshops often exploit workers by taking advantage of their vulnerability, such as by requiring them
Sweatshops are a significant issue in many parts of the world, and have been the subject of
