Svømmestilarter

Svømmestilarter refer to the different techniques or strokes used to propel oneself through water. The most common competitive swimming strokes are freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Freestyle, often called the crawl, is characterized by alternating arm movements and a flutter kick. Backstroke is performed on the back with alternating arm strokes and a flutter kick. Breaststroke is distinguished by a simultaneous arm pull and a frog-like leg kick. Butterfly is a demanding stroke involving a simultaneous overwater arm recovery and a dolphin kick, where both legs move together.

Each stroke has specific rules governing body position, arm and leg movements, and breathing. In freestyle, swimmers have the most freedom in their technique, but the front crawl is universally adopted due to its efficiency. Backstroke allows for continuous breathing as the face is out of the water. Breaststroke and butterfly require precise timing and coordination between the upper and lower body.

Beyond competitive swimming, there are other recognized or informal swimming styles. Sidestroke, for instance, is often taught for lifesaving and is less efficient for speed but can be more sustainable for long distances. Elementary backstroke and sidestroke are often taught as basic survival strokes. The choice of swimming style can depend on the purpose, whether it's for sport, fitness, survival, or recreation.
