Suihkumyllyt

Suihkumyllyt, which translates to "shower mills" or "jet mills" in English, are a type of grinding equipment used in industrial settings. They operate by utilizing high-velocity gas streams to accelerate particles, causing them to collide with each other. This repeated impact and attrition grinds the material down to a very fine powder. The process is typically carried out in a grinding chamber where the gas, often compressed air or nitrogen, is injected tangentially, creating a vortex. The material to be ground is introduced into this vortex, where it is caught in the turbulent flow and subjected to the high-speed particle collisions.

The fineness of the resulting powder is controlled by factors such as the gas pressure, the rate of material feed, and the design of the grinding chamber. Suihkumyllyt are particularly effective for grinding brittle and heat-sensitive materials because the process is relatively cool due to the expansion of the gas. They are commonly used in industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, ceramics, and food processing for applications requiring micron-sized or sub-micron particles. The absence of grinding media like balls or rods means there is no contamination from wear parts, which is crucial for high-purity applications.
