Subtags
Subtags are the components of a tagging or categorization system that refine or specify a broader tag. They represent a finer level of granularity within a hierarchy, allowing items to be grouped under a general umbrella tag while also distinguishing more precise subcategories. Subtags are common in metadata schemes, language tagging, content management, and search systems, where they enable accurate filtering, faceted navigation, and targeted querying.
In language tagging standards such as BCP 47, each element of a language tag is a subtag.
