Sublayouts

A sublayout is a design pattern used in user interface development to organize and reuse portions of a layout. Instead of defining an entire screen's layout from scratch, developers can create smaller, self-contained layout components that can be included within other layouts. This promotes modularity and maintainability in complex user interfaces. Think of it as building with LEGO bricks; each sublayout is a specialized brick that can be plugged into a larger structure.

The primary benefit of using sublayouts is the reduction of code duplication. If a certain arrangement of elements, such as a header, footer, or a specific form section, is needed in multiple places, it can be defined once as a sublayout and then referenced wherever it's required. This simplifies updates; changing the sublayout automatically updates all instances where it's used.

Sublayouts can also improve code readability and organization. By breaking down a complex main layout into smaller, manageable sublayouts, the overall structure becomes easier to understand and navigate. This is particularly helpful for large projects with many screens and components. They can be nested within each other, allowing for hierarchical organization of UI elements.
