Subbidang

Subbidang is a term used in Indonesian administrative and organizational contexts to denote a subdivision within a broader bidang (field, department, or sector). The prefix sub- signals a rank or scope below the main bidang, making a subbidang responsible for a narrower area of work within the larger organization. In typical government, university, and corporate structures, a bidang covers a set of programs or services, and each subbidang handles more specific tasks within that scope.

A subbidang is usually led by a Kepala Subbidang (head of subfield) or a similar manager and comprises several units or staff that carry out planning, implementation, and monitoring activities. Responsibilities may include formulating activity plans, coordinating programs, managing budgets and resources, and preparing reports. The exact size and scope of a subbidang vary by organization; some may include only a few personnel, while others encompass multiple units.

Subbidang commonly appears in formal documentation, organizational charts, and job titles such as Subbidang Layanan Publik, Subbidang Perizinan, or Subbidang Penelitian. In academia and research institutions, subbidang can denote a narrower research area within a broader bidang like Bahasa, Teknik, atau Sains. While not universal in private corporations, the concept of subdividing a larger field into more precise responsible areas is widely used.
