Subalansavimas

Subalansavimas is the Lithuanian term for balancing, a process used in mechanical engineering to ensure that a rotating body, such as a wheel or shaft, has a uniform mass distribution across its axis of rotation. The primary goal of subalansavimas is to minimize vibrations that arise when unequal mass distribution causes a rotating part to experience periodic changes in centrifugal forces. Excess vibration can lead to discomfort in the operating environment, accelerated wear of bearings, and eventual failure of the rotating component.

The balancing procedure generally begins with a measurement step. A rotating body is mounted on a balance stand or a wheel balancer and spun to detect the points of maximum and minimum vibration. Modern systems use sensors or laser measurement devices to determine the imbalance magnitude and the location of the imbalance. Once the data are collected, corrective counterweights are calculated.

Adding counterweights is the corrective phase. Counterweights are typically applied by applying adhesive weights or drilling holes into the wheel hub to remove material, thereby adjusting the mass distribution. After counterweight installation, the rotation test is repeated to confirm that the vibration levels fall within acceptable tolerances. For high-precision work, this cycle may be repeated several times.
