SubSaharanAafrika, also known as Sub-Saharan Africa, denotes the part of the African continent lying south of the Sahara Desert. The boundary is geographic and varies by context; commonly it includes all countries except those in the Maghreb and parts of the Sahel. The region comprises about 46 to 48 states, depending on classification.

Geography and environment: SubSaharanAafrika spans diverse landscapes, from the Congo Basin rainforest and East African savannas to the Kalahari and Namib deserts. It contains major river systems such as the Congo, Niger, and Zambezi, and hosts a wide range of ecosystems. Climate ranges from tropical rainforests to arid zones, with considerable ecological and agricultural importance.

Demography and society: The region is home to roughly 1.2 billion people, making up a substantial portion of Africa’s population. It is characterized by extensive linguistic and ethnic diversity, with language families including Niger-Congo, Afroasiatic, and Nilo-Saharan. Economy and development: SubSaharanAafrika features diverse economies, from agriculture and light manufacturing to extractive sectors such as oil and minerals and growing services. Economic performance is uneven: some countries have achieved strong growth and poverty reduction, while others face challenges related to healthcare, education, infrastructure, governance, and vulnerability to external shocks.
