Støykansellering

Støykansellering, also known as noise cancellation or noise suppression, is a technology used to reduce or eliminate unwanted sound. It works by generating an inverse sound wave that cancels out the incoming noise. This is typically achieved through a microphone that captures the ambient noise, a processor that analyzes the sound and creates the anti-noise signal, and a speaker that emits the anti-noise wave.

There are two main types of active noise cancellation: feedforward and feedback. Feedforward systems use microphones placed on the outside of the device, capturing noise before it reaches the listener's ear. Feedback systems use microphones inside the earcups, monitoring the sound that the listener actually hears and adjusting the anti-noise accordingly. Many modern noise-canceling devices employ a hybrid approach, combining both feedforward and feedback technologies for optimal performance.

Passive noise cancellation, on the other hand, relies on physical barriers to block sound. This is achieved through the design of headphones or earplugs, using materials and seals that physically impede sound waves from entering the ear. While effective for certain frequencies, passive noise cancellation is generally less versatile than active noise cancellation.
