StudiomonitorSystemen, commonly referred to as studio monitor systems, are specialized loudspeaker systems designed for audio production environments such as recording studios, mixing rooms, and mastering facilities. Their primary purpose is to reproduce sound as accurately and neutrally as possible, allowing audio engineers and producers to make critical listening decisions without coloration or distortion introduced by the playback device.

Unlike consumer Hi-Fi speakers, which are often designed to enhance certain frequencies for a more pleasing listening experience, studio monitors aim for a flat frequency response. This means they reproduce all audible frequencies at the same relative loudness, providing an uncolored representation of the audio signal. This accuracy is crucial for tasks like identifying subtle imperfections in a recording, balancing different audio elements, and ensuring a mix will translate well across various playback systems.

Studio monitor systems typically consist of one or more drivers housed within a cabinet. The most common configurations include two-way systems with a woofer for low frequencies and a tweeter for high frequencies, and three-way systems that add a mid-range driver for more detailed reproduction of vocal and instrument frequencies in that range. They are often designed for near-field listening, meaning they are intended to be placed relatively close to the listener to minimize the impact of room acoustics.

Active studio monitors, which are prevalent today, contain built-in amplifiers for each driver, offering greater control and often eliminating the need for external power amplifiers. Passive monitors, on the other hand, require an external amplifier.
