Strumpbyxor

Strumpbyxor are a one-piece hosiery garment worn on the legs and hips, combining stockings and underwear into a single layer. They are typically made from knitted nylon or a nylon-elastane blend and are designed to be worn under clothing for modesty, warmth, or a smooth silhouette.

Strumpbyxor emerged in the 20th century with the rise of synthetic fibers. Nylon pantyhose gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s as a practical alternative to garter stockings. Since then, the range has expanded to include sheer, semi-sheer, opaque, textured, and patterned versions in a wide array of colours.

Most strumpbyxor consist of nylon with elastane for stretch. Denier indicates thickness; sheers are typically 5–20 denier, while opaque varieties exceed 40 denier. Common features include a reinforced toe, a smooth or control-top waistband, and sometimes a cotton gusset. Some styles are seamless or have decorative seams, patterns, or textures.

They are worn with skirts, dresses, or shorts, and paired with various footwear. Sheer pantyhose create a subtle leg appearance, while opaque tights provide warmth and coverage in cooler weather. Patterns, textures, and colours offer fashion variety and can influence formality or style.

Care for strumpbyxor typically involves gentle washing by hand or on a delicate cycle, then air drying away from heat to prevent snagging and shrinking. Washing inside out and using a laundry bag can extend life.
