Strengeinstrumenter, also known as string instruments, are musical instruments that produce sound by means of vibrating strings. The vibration is typically initiated by plucking, bowing, or striking the strings. The pitch of the sound produced is determined by the length, tension, and mass of the strings. While Western orchestral instruments often feature a standardized design, instruments from other traditions, such as the sitar from India or the koto from Japan, exhibit unique forms and playing techniques.
