Strahlungsheizungen

Strahlungsheizungen are passive solar space heaters that use solar radiation to warm a space. The term is German for "radiant heaters" and refers to a type of heating system that captures and directs solar energy into a building. These systems can be installed on the roof, walls, or windows of a building and are designed to provide a natural and efficient way to heat spaces without the need for traditional heating fuels.

The basic components of a Strahlungsheizung include a collector, which captures the sun's rays, a fluid system to distribute the heat, and a distribution system to deliver the warmth to the interior of the building. The collector is typically a flat, dark-colored panel that is installed on a south-facing surface and is angled to maximize exposure to the sun. The fluid system, usually a mixture of water and antifreeze, is heated by the solar radiation and distributed to conventional heating elements such as radiators or air convectors.

Strahlungsheizungen offer several advantages, including reduced energy costs, lower environmental impact, and increased building comfort. However, their effectiveness depends on various factors, such as the climate, the building's orientation and insulation, and the system's design and maintenance. The systems are relatively simple and low-cost to install, but may not provide adequate heat in extremely cold or cloudy climates. Nevertheless, they can be an effective and sustainable solution for buildings in regions with mild winters or for supplementing traditional heating systems.
