Stillauthoritarianism is a term used to describe a political system or regime that retains core authoritarian characteristics despite undergoing superficial or nominal reforms. It suggests that while outward appearances may suggest liberalization or democratization, the underlying power structures, decision-making processes, and mechanisms of control remain largely unchanged. This can manifest in various ways, such as the continued dominance of a single party or ruling elite, the suppression of genuine political opposition, limitations on freedom of speech and assembly, and a judiciary that is not independent.
