Stenostiridae

Stenostiridae is a proposed family of passerine birds that includes the fairy bluebirds and the Iora family. While traditionally placed within the family Campephagidae, recent molecular studies have suggested that these birds represent a distinct evolutionary lineage. The name Stenostiridae is derived from the Greek words "stenos" meaning narrow and "stiros" meaning beak, referring to the typically slender bills of its members.

The fairy bluebirds, genus *Irena*, are known for their iridescent blue plumage, particularly in males, and their frugivorous diet. They are found in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The Ioras, genus *Aegithina*, are smaller birds with predominantly green and yellow plumage. They inhabit forests and woodlands across South and Southeast Asia.

The placement of Stenostiridae within the passerine tree of life is still a subject of ongoing research. While some studies strongly support its separation from Campephagidae, its exact relationships to other passerine families are not yet fully resolved. Further genetic and morphological analyses are needed to solidify its taxonomic position and confirm the validity of Stenostiridae as a distinct family. If recognized, it would represent a significant revision to avian classification.
