Iora

Iora is a genus of small, brightly colored frogs native to the rainforests of Central and South America. These arboreal amphibians are known for their vibrant hues, which can include shades of red, orange, yellow, blue, and green, often in striking patterns. This coloration serves as a warning to potential predators, as many Iora species possess toxic skin secretions, a common defense mechanism among poison dart frogs.

These frogs are typically found in the humid understory and canopy of tropical forests, where they inhabit bromeliads, tree crevices, and other moist environments. Their diet primarily consists of small invertebrates such as insects and spiders, which they catch using their long, sticky tongues. Iora frogs are diurnal, meaning they are most active during the day, often heard calling to each other with distinct chirps and whistles.

Reproduction usually involves the female laying eggs in small pools of water, often collected in plant structures. The tadpoles then develop in these isolated aquatic environments.
