Stenden

Stenden refers to a Dutch higher education institution associated with Stenden University of Applied Sciences, a network of vocational and professional schools in the Netherlands and abroad. The organization grew from the former Stenden Hogeschool and expanded to offer a range of programs in hospitality and tourism, business, education, and related fields, with an emphasis on international and practice‑based learning.

Historically, Stenden operated primarily as an applied sciences university with multiple campuses, including locations in the Netherlands and international branches. The institution pursued English‑taught programs and international collaborations, and its degrees were accredited by recognized Dutch accreditation bodies.

In the 2010s, NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences merged with Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. Following this consolidation, the Stenden branding was gradually phased out as the merged institution integrated its programs, campuses, and administration under the Hanze umbrella. The international campuses that were part of the Stenden network were generally reorganized or rebranded as part of this process.

Today, Stenden is chiefly remembered as a former name associated with the Dutch network that ultimately became part of Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. Alumni and historical materials sometimes retain the Stenden designation, but the current operations and branding fall under Hanze UAS.
