The term denotes a class of small, flat stone tablets used as ritual objects during religious ceremonies tied to temple spaces. Physical characteristics of stemplooiën vary by site, but most are made from soapstone, limestone, or basalt. Typical measurements range from 12 to 28 cm in height and 8 to 20 cm in width.
