Advanced work uses deep learning to model embedding patterns or to estimate payload size, and may involve benchmarking against standard datasets.

Applications include digital forensics, security auditing, information assurance, and counter-forensic analysis, as well as academic research on the limits of covert channels. Challenges include the diversity of embedding schemes, cover-source mismatches, adaptive or content-aware embedding, and the risk of false positives or negatives.
