SteCroix

SteCroix is a coastal city and provincial capital in the fictional nation of Arcadia. Located on the SteCroix River delta along the Bay of Ironswell, it functions as a regional administrative and economic hub. The urban area covers about 120 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 52,000 in 2023.

The city lies along a protected harbor at sea level, with a temperate maritime climate, mild winters, and cool summers. The surrounding landscape includes river flats, marshes, and gentle hills.

SteCroix was founded in the late 17th century by Francophone traders and settlers, and its name derives from Saint Croix. It developed as a port town and trading center, was fortified in the 18th century, and grew with shipping and shipbuilding.

Today the port remains central to commerce, with fishing, seafood processing, light manufacturing, logistics, and tourism as major sectors. The city hosts a regional hospital complex and a free-trade zone that shape employment.

SteCroix has a multicultural population, including Arcadian, Francophone, and immigrant communities. Local culture blends maritime heritage with arts venues, markets, and festivals; the annual Festival of the Croix is a regional highlight.

Education and infrastructure include SteCroix University of Technology (founded 1967) and several secondary schools. Transportation comprises SteCroix International Airport, a commercial seaport, a rail line, and a ring-road network.

Notable sites include the Cathedral of Saint Croix, the Old Dock Pier, Market Square, and the Citadel Fort, with the riverfront serving as a popular urban space.
