Statusfensters

Statusfenster, often referred to in English as a status window, is a user interface element that presents information about the current state of an application or a running task. It can be a separate window, a dockable pane, or a dedicated area within the main window, and it is typically designed to convey ongoing status without interrupting workflow.

A statusfenster may display a variety of data, including progress indicators, success or error messages, the name of the current operation, timing information, cursor position or selection details, connection or file status, and lightweight logs or hints. In many applications it complements a more compact status bar by offering extra space for multi-line text, history, and contextual data relevant to ongoing tasks.

Design and usability considerations include clarity and conciseness, appropriate update frequency, and non-disruptive behavior. The window should be accessible, with readable text, keyboard operability, and support for localization. It should avoid clutter, allow users to resize or hide it if possible, and preserve performance by throttling updates for long-running operations. Consistency across the application and with platform conventions improves learnability.

Relation to other UI elements: a statusfenster is related to, but typically more capable than, a status bar. While a status bar provides quick, always-visible indicators, a statusfenster can offer detailed information, logs, or step-by-step progress and can be opened or docked as needed.
