Stahldecksplatte

Stahldecksplatte, or steel deck plate, is a flat steel sheet used as a deck surface and as a structural component in ships, offshore structures, and industrial buildings. It commonly serves as the base for decks, flooring, or walkways and can also act as a formwork substrate for concrete in composite floor systems.

Materials and finishes vary. The majority are hot-rolled carbon steel plates made to common grades such as S235JR, S275JR or S355JR according to EN 10025. In highly corrosive environments, stainless steel or high-strength variants may be chosen. Surfaces are often smooth, but many deck plates are produced with chequered or ribbed textures to improve slip resistance. Finishing treatments include pickling and oiling, galvanizing, or painted coatings for corrosion protection.

Manufacturing and customization. Deck plates are produced by hot rolling and then trimmed to size. Edges are prepared for welding or bolting, and patterns or perforations can be added as required. Typical thickness ranges are from a few millimeters up to several tens of millimeters, depending on load requirements, span, and whether the plate carries concrete in a composite floor.

Applications and function. In shipbuilding and offshore engineering, deck plates form the deck skin and, with stiffeners, contribute to overall structural rigidity. In construction, they are used as industrial floor decks and mezzanine floors, often acting as both the deck surface and a reusable formwork element for concrete floors.

Standards and considerations. Design adheres to relevant structural steel codes (for example EN 1993 family, EN 10025 grades, and project-specific standards). Corrosion protection is important in marine and humid environments, and installation may involve welding, bolting, or mechanical fastening.
