Sportis

Sportis is a contemporary team sport developed in the early 2010s by a coalition of clubs in northern Europe and North America. The game blends elements of field sports, ball handling, and strategic positioning, and is designed for both outdoor and indoor play. It is typically played on a rectangular field divided into defined scoring zones, with two teams competing to accumulate points through accurate passes and precise deliveries to the scoring areas or goals.

Teams usually consist of five to seven players, with rolling substitutions common in many leagues. The primary objective is to move the ball across the field and place it into high‑value zones or into a goal area to earn points. The ball is lighter than a basketball and sized for easy handling, enabling fast passes and accurate throws. Play emphasizes speed, spacing, and decision making, while rules limit dangerous contact to promote safety and fair play. Violations such as holding, illegal contact, or offside-like infractions typically result in turnovers or free plays for the opposing team.

A match commonly lasts two 20‑minute halves with a short halftime, though durations vary by competition. Referees, supported by observers or video review in higher levels, enforce rules and manage fouls, substitutions, and timekeeping. Scoring zones may carry different point values, encouraging teams to balance risk and reward in their offensive strategy.

Sportis is governed by the Sportis Federation (SF) and supported by national associations in several countries. The SF standardizes rules, equipment specifications, coaching education, and competition formats, and it sanctions regional leagues as well as a world championship held periodically.
