Spindelträger

Spindelträger (spindle carrier) is a mechanical component used to support and align a spindle in machine tools and related equipment. It provides a rigid interface between the spindle and the machine frame, carries bearings and seals, and maintains precise coaxial alignment under varying loads and speeds.

Construction typically employs steel or cast iron, with aluminum variants for high-speed applications. The design includes bearing housings, mounting surfaces, lubrication channels, and interfaces for tooling or drive fittings. In many modern machines the spindle is mounted inside a cartridge or integrated housing, and the term Spindelträger is often used for the outer support that carries the bearing arrangement and supports the spindle cartridge.

Functionally, the Spindelträger transmits drive torque from the motor to the spindle, supports radial and axial loads, and provides adjustment capability for wear, thermal expansion, and misalignment, sometimes incorporating preload adjustment and cooling.

Variants include fixed or floating designs, belt-driven or direct-drive configurations, and versions designed for single or multiple spindles, with options for cooling channels, precision measurement features, and integration with tool changers.

Applications cover machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines, as well as textile or other industrial equipment where rotating spindles must be precisely supported.

Regular maintenance comprises inspection of alignment, bearing wear, and lubrication; replacement of worn bearings or housings; and verification of thermal stability and preload.
