Spekúlanter

Spekúlanter refers to a type of Icelandic traditional bread, specifically a type of flatbread or cracker-like pastry that has historical significance in Icelandic cuisine. The term originates from the Old Norse word *spakula*, meaning "flatbread" or "cracker," and was commonly baked during the medieval period. Spekúlanter were often made from simple ingredients, including flour, water, and sometimes yeast or other leavening agents, though some variations included honey, berries, or other fillings.

These breads were traditionally baked in a *spakulahús*, a small, dome-shaped oven designed to bake multiple flatbreads at once.
