Smurfette

Smurfette is a fictional character in The Smurfs franchise, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo. She first appeared in 1967 in a story in the Les Schtroumpfs comic series. In the original narrative, Smurfette was created by the evil wizard Gargamel to infiltrate and disrupt the Smurf village. After she is discovered by the Smurfs, Papa Smurf and the others remove Gargamel's influence and transform her into a real Smurf, making her the village's first female inhabitant and, for a time, the sole female Smurf in early stories. This origin has been reinterpreted in various adaptations, but remains central to her character as someone both part of the community and distinct.

Smurfette is depicted as blue-skinned and diminutive, with long blond hair and a white dress and hat, though visual depictions vary among media. She is typically portrayed as kind, compassionate, and curious, often serving as a moral compass and voice of empathy within the group. She participates in village life, adventures, and conflicts, and is sometimes shown dealing with issues of belonging and gender dynamics in a largely male-dominated setting. In different series and films, other female Smurfs are introduced, and Smurfette's backstory and role are adjusted accordingly, but she commonly remains a central and recognizable character.

The character has had a broad cultural impact, becoming the most recognizable Smurf and a staple of Smurf merchandising, adaptations, and media. Smurfette is frequently cited in discussions of gender representation in the Smurfs and in broader popular culture.
