Skumläckor
Skumläckor, literally translating to "foam leaks" in Swedish, refers to a phenomenon observed in certain types of polyurethane foam. These leaks typically manifest as a sticky, liquid-like substance seeping out from the foam, often after a period of time. The cause is usually attributed to the degradation of the foam's chemical structure, particularly the plasticizers and other additives used during manufacturing. Over time, these components can break down, especially when exposed to heat, moisture, or UV radiation, leading to the formation and expulsion of the viscous fluid.
This issue is commonly encountered in older furniture, mattresses, and insulation materials made with polyurethane foam.
