Självläkningsförmåga refers to the inherent capacity of living organisms and certain materials to repair damage and restore their original function. In biology, this concept is fundamental to understanding processes like wound healing, tissue regeneration, and the immune system's response to pathogens. Organisms have evolved complex mechanisms to detect injury, initiate repair processes, and clear away damaged cells or foreign substances. Examples range from the simple regrowth of skin after a cut to more remarkable feats like the regeneration of limbs in some amphibians or the repair of DNA damage within cells.

Self-healing materials are designed to autonomously repair damage, such as cracks or scratches, without external intervention.
