Sisälaasteita

Sisälaasteita refers to interior plastering or rendering in Finnish. It is a traditional building technique used to create smooth, durable, and decorative surfaces on interior walls and ceilings. Historically, sisälaasteita was often made from lime, sand, and sometimes animal hair or other additives for reinforcement. Modern interior plasters can be cement-based, gypsum-based, or a combination of materials, offering various properties like increased hardness, faster drying times, or improved resistance to moisture.

The application of sisälaasteita typically involves several layers. The first layer, known as the scratch coat or undercoat, is applied to the substrate (e.g., brick, concrete, or lath) and scratched to provide a key for subsequent layers. The second layer, the brown coat or leveling coat, is applied to build up the surface to the desired thickness and achieve a relatively flat plane. The final layer, the finish coat or skim coat, is a thin application designed to provide a smooth, even surface ready for decoration, such as painting or wallpapering.

The choice of sisälaasteita depends on the desired aesthetic, the substrate, and the functional requirements of the space. For example, bathrooms or kitchens might benefit from moisture-resistant plasters, while living areas might prioritize a fine, smooth finish. Artisanal techniques can also be employed to create decorative textures and patterns within the plaster itself, adding unique character to interior spaces.
