Sistemoms are modular units within a larger system architecture, a concept used to emphasize composability and standard interfaces. The term combines a root related to system with a suffix suggesting discrete units or modules. In theory, a sistemom encapsulates a functional domain, its data model, and its external behavior, exposing a well-defined interface that other sistemoms can rely on without knowing internal details.

In practice, a sistemom is similar to a software component, microservice, or hardware module, but it is defined by a formal contract or interface description.
