Singlejohtoinen refers to a design principle in electrical engineering and electronics, particularly in the context of wiring and circuit layout. The term originates from Finnish, where "single" means single and "johto" means conductor or wire. In this context, it describes a wiring method where a single conductor is used to connect components in a circuit, typically without a return path or ground connection in the traditional sense.

This approach is often employed in low-power applications, such as certain types of sensors, LEDs, or simple control circuits. Singlejohtoinen wiring reduces complexity and cost by minimizing the number of conductors required. It is commonly used in systems where power is supplied through a single live wire, and the return path is implicitly provided by the chassis or another conductive element, such as the earth ground. This method is particularly prevalent in automotive electronics, industrial machinery, and some consumer devices.

One of the key advantages of singlejohtoinen wiring is its simplicity, which can lead to easier installation and maintenance. However, it also introduces challenges, such as increased susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and potential safety hazards if not properly insulated or managed.
