SimaPro

SimaPro is a commercial life cycle assessment (LCA) software developed by PRé Sustainability (now PRE). It is designed to help practitioners model products and services across their life cycles and quantify environmental impacts using established impact assessment methods. The tool supports the ISO 14040/44 framework and is used to perform life cycle inventories and life cycle impact assessments for complex systems with multiple functions and links.

Key capabilities include a library-based workflow, database integration, and the construction of unit processes and flows to represent real-world supply chains. SimaPro offers scenario building, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty analysis (including Monte Carlo simulations). It supports multiple LCIA methods such as ReCiPe, TRACI, CML, and ILCD, and provides allocation options for multifunctional processes. Output typically comprises impact scores, contribution analyses, hotspot identification, and customizable reports suitable for environmental product declarations (EPD) and carbon footprint assessments.

SimaPro is used by manufacturers, consultants, and researchers to compare product designs, optimize supply chains, and communicate environmental performance. It accommodates data from public databases and private datasets and enables results to be exported to common formats for reporting. The software is proprietary and licensed through PRE or regional distributors, with accompanying training and support options.
