Siliconmoduler

Siliconmoduler is a modular platform concept for signal modulation built around silicon-based modulators. It refers to a family of plug-in modules designed to perform amplitude, phase, or frequency modulation of electrical or optical signals, using silicon photonics or silicon-based electro-optic devices. In practice, siliconmoduler is used to assemble reconfigurable signal processing chains on a common base.

The architecture centers on a base carrier with standardized connectors and a set of plug-in modulation modules. Common module types include silicon Mach-Zehnder interferometer modulators, microring modulators, and carrier-depletion modulators implemented in CMOS-compatible silicon. Modules typically include a driver, control logic, and optical or electrical interfaces that share a common protocol and power rails, enabling scalable customization without redesigning the entire system.

Applications span optical communications, data center interconnects, and sensing, with potential use in RF photonics, LiDAR, and integrated photonic circuits for research or production deployments.
