SieveAnalyse

SieveAnalyse is a software tool for analyzing sieve analysis data to determine the particle size distribution of granular materials. It is used in geotechnical engineering, civil construction, and materials science to interpret laboratory sieve tests and support material specification and quality control. The program accepts standard sieve stacks and computes the cumulative percent passing, the percent retained on each sieve, and derived indices such as D10, D50, D90, the uniformity coefficient Cu, and the coefficient of curvature Cd. It supports multiple sieve series and can handle several samples in one session.

Input and workflow: Users provide mass retained on each sieve and the total sample mass. SieveAnalyse converts these to cumulative passing data, constructs the gradation curve, and applies optional smoothing and interpolation. It flags inconsistencies such as non-monotonic data, missing stages, or totals that do not reconcile. The tool can compute fineness modulus and percent passing at any specified size, and can report percent fines. Exports include CSV and PDF reports for documentation and further analysis.

Outputs: The software generates plots and tables including the gradation curve, percent passing versus sieve size, and log-scale representations used in geotechnical practice. Reports can be exported to CSV, Excel, PDF, or image formats, and data can be shared with other geotechnical software as needed.

Implementation and availability: SieveAnalyse is available as a standalone application and as a programmable library for data analysis workflows. It emphasizes transparent, repeatable methodology and alignment with common standards. Limitations include reliance on accurate sample preparation and test execution, and it is not a substitute for laboratory testing.
