In solid mechanics and materials science, shear transmission arises when shear stress is applied parallel to a plane, causing adjacent layers to slide relative to each other. The term may be used to describe how S-waves cross geological boundaries or interfaces, where velocity, attenuation, and impedance contrasts affect transmission. In engineering devices, a hypothetical “sheartransmitter” would be an actuator or mechanism designed to generate, amplify, or control shear displacement or shear strain, often by exploiting torsional, sliding, or shear-torsion modes.
