Sevettijärvi

Sevettijärvi is a village in the municipality of Inari in the Lapland region of Finland. It lies on the southern shore of the lake Sevettijärvi and is part of the Skolt Sámi cultural area, often referred to as Sevettijärvi–Näätämö.

In the mid-20th century, following World War II relocations, many Skolt Sámi families moved from the Petsamo region to Sevettijärvi and nearby Näätämö, establishing a long-standing Skolt community in the area. The village remains an important center for Skolt Sámi language and culture, with most residents identifying as Skolt Sámi. Traditional livelihoods such as reindeer herding, fishing, and crafts continue alongside Finnish-language schooling and public life.

The local economy combines public services, small businesses, and seasonal tourism that highlights nature and culture. The surrounding landscape comprises forests, lakes, and wetlands, offering opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, and winter activities.
