Sevenspice
Sevenspice is a plant belonging to the genus Illicium, commonly known as star anise. It is distinct from the more widely recognized Illicium verum, which is the source of Chinese star anise. Sevenspice, scientifically named Illicium anisatum, is native to Japan and Korea. Its common name is derived from the characteristic seven-pointed star shape of its fruit, though the number of points can vary.
The aroma and flavor of sevenspice are similar to Chinese star anise, with a strong licorice-like scent
Despite its toxicity, sevenspice has had traditional uses. In Japan, its wood has been burned as incense
