Serverressourcer

Serverressourcer are the measurable capabilities of a server that enable it to perform workloads. The term is commonly used in Danish and Norwegian IT contexts to refer to these resources. They are typically categorized into compute, memory, storage, and network resources. Compute resources include CPU cores, clock speed, and accelerator hardware such as GPUs. Memory resources cover RAM and cache. Storage resources encompass total capacity, IOPS, throughput, and latency, as well as the type of storage media. Network resources describe bandwidth, latency, and network interface performance.

Monitoring and management: Administrators track resource usage with monitoring tools that report metrics such as CPU utilization, memory usage, disk I/O, and network throughput. Capacity planning uses historical data to anticipate needs and prevent bottlenecks.

Provisioning and isolation: Resource management sets limits, quotas, and quality-of-service policies. Virtualization and containerization provide isolation and enable fair sharing of resources. Technologies such as virtual machines, containers, and orchestration systems enforce resource controls (cgroups, namespaces, scheduler policies).

Scaling and resilience: Vertical scaling adds resources to a single server; horizontal scaling adds servers. Auto-scaling, load balancing, and redundancy improve availability and performance under varying demand.

Context and challenges: In data centers and cloud environments, efficient use of serverressourcer balances performance, cost, and energy. Common challenges include contention between workloads, overcommitment, noisy neighbors, and complex multi-tenant scheduling.
