SensorsAre is a conceptual framework used to describe how diverse sensors and their data can be organized, discovered, and accessed within distributed systems. The term is not a formal standard but a general label applied in discussions of interoperability, scalability, and governance for sensor networks.

Core idea: sensors are treated as modular components that expose uniform interfaces for data retrieval and control. A typical sensorsAre architecture organizes components into three layers: the device layer, which includes sensors, actuators, and edge gateways; the data layer, which defines standardized data models, metadata, timestamps, units, and provenance; and the service layer, which provides discovery, querying, and policy-enforcement services through APIs.

Data modeling within sensorsAre emphasizes consistent metadata, supporting ontologies or taxonomies to describe sensor type, accuracy, and calibration history. Interoperability is achieved through common communication protocols and export formats, alongside capability descriptions that enable automatic device matching and orchestration.
