Self-orientation is the process of aligning one's thoughts, decisions, and behaviors with one's own developing sense of identity, values, and long-term goals. It involves prioritizing personal aims and beliefs in the face of external pressures or social expectations, rather than simply following others or reacting to immediate circumstances.

In psychology, self-orientation intersects with constructs such as self-concept, self-awareness, self-regulation, and autonomy. A well-developed self-orientation supports consistent decision making and goal pursuit.
