Selenographers
Selenographers are individuals who study the surface features of the Moon, a field known as selenography. Their work involves mapping and describing the Moon's topography, including craters, mountains, valleys, and other geological formations. Selenographers use various tools and techniques to analyze lunar data, such as telescopes, spacecraft images, and computer software. They contribute to our understanding of the Moon's history, geology, and potential for future exploration. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has established a system for naming lunar features, which is overseen by the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature. Selenographers often collaborate with other scientists, including planetary geologists and astronomers, to advance our knowledge of the Moon and the solar system.
