Sechskant
Sechskant is a German term that denotes a hexagonal shape with six equal sides. In engineering and construction, Sechskant is commonly used to refer to fasteners and components that have an external hexagonal profile designed to be driven with a wrench or socket. The most familiar examples are hex bolts and hex nuts, which are sized by their diameter and thread pitch and by the distance across the flats of the hex head or nut.
Hex fasteners are valued for their ability to transmit high torque, their ease of manufacturing, and their
Standards and dimensions for Sechskant fasteners are defined internationally, primarily under ISO metric and DIN specifications.
In use, Sechskant fasteners appear throughout mechanical engineering, automotive, construction, and consumer products, where reliable clamping
