Seagals

Seagals are a fictional species of avian creatures that inhabit the oceanic regions of the planet Xylos. They are known for their iridescent blue plumage, which shimmers with hints of silver and green in direct sunlight. Seagals possess a unique biological adaptation that allows them to breathe both air and water, enabling them to spend extended periods underwater hunting for their primary food source, bioluminescent plankton. Their wings are broad and powerful, designed for efficient flight over vast distances, and they are often observed migrating in large flocks during Xylos's twin-moon seasons.

Socially, Seagals live in complex, matriarchal colonies typically found on the sheer cliffs and rocky islands that dot Xylos's coastlines. These colonies are highly organized, with designated roles for hunting, nest building, and the protection of young. Communication among Seagals is achieved through a series of melodic calls and intricate aerial displays, with different patterns and sounds conveying specific meanings. Their lifecycle begins with a single, luminous egg laid in a nest constructed from woven seaweed and hardened sea-foam. The young Seagals, known as "gleamers," are born with a duller coloration that intensifies as they mature. Despite their beauty, Seagals are territorial and will fiercely defend their nesting sites from predators, which include larger marine reptiles and aerial hunters native to Xylos. Their existence is closely tied to the health of Xylos's ocean ecosystems, making them a significant indicator species for environmental changes.
