Scythes
Scythes are hand tools used for mowing grass or reaping grain. A standard scythe consists of a long, curved blade attached to a long pole-like shaft called a snath. The blade is usually mounted at an oblique angle to the snath, and the user grasps the snath with both hands, one near the blade and the other near the opposite end, to swing the blade in a wide, crescent-shaped arc. Scythes are designed for continuous cutting over large areas, in contrast to a sickle, which has a short handle and is used for sweeping cuts.
