Schrägverzahnungswinkel

Schrägverzahnung refers to a type of gear tooth arrangement where the teeth are cut at an angle to the axis of the gear. This contrasts with straight-cut (or spur) gears, where the teeth are parallel to the axis. The angle of the teeth, known as the helix angle, allows for a smoother and quieter engagement between meshing gears.

When two schrägverzahnte gears mesh, the contact between the teeth begins at one end and gradually extends across the entire tooth face as the gears rotate. This gradual engagement distributes the load over a larger surface area and reduces the impact forces that occur with straight-cut gears. Consequently, schrägverzahnte gears generate less noise and vibration, making them suitable for applications where quiet operation is important.

A key characteristic of schrägverzahnung is the presence of an axial thrust force. Because the teeth are angled, they exert a force along the axis of the gear shaft. This thrust force must be accounted for in the design of bearings and mounting systems, as it can cause unwanted axial movement if not properly managed. To counteract this axial thrust, designers sometimes use double-helical gears, also known as herringbone gears, which have two sets of teeth angled in opposite directions, effectively canceling out the thrust forces.

Schrägverzahnte gears are commonly found in a wide range of machinery, including automotive transmissions, industrial gearboxes, and machine tools, where their benefits of reduced noise, smoother operation, and increased load-carrying capacity are advantageous. The helix angle is typically specified in degrees, and its value influences the degree of quietness and the magnitude of the axial thrust.
