Schließungsosteotomien
Schließungsosteotomien are surgical procedures performed to correct bone deformities. The technique involves surgically cutting a bone, removing a wedge of bone, and then bringing the cut ends together to close the gap. This closure results in a shortening of the bone. The procedure is typically performed to correct angular deformities or to reduce excessive bone length, often in cases of limb length discrepancies or joint malalignment. The primary goal is to improve function and reduce pain by restoring a more anatomically correct alignment. The bone fragments are usually stabilized with internal fixation devices such as plates and screws or with external fixation devices to maintain their position while healing occurs. The amount of bone removed is carefully calculated based on the specific deformity being addressed. Post-operative care involves immobilization and rehabilitation to promote bone healing and restore mobility. While effective, schließungsosteotomien carry inherent surgical risks, including infection, non-union, and nerve damage, as with any bone surgery.
