Schleimhauttrauma

Schleimhauttrauma refers to damage or injury to a mucous membrane. Mucous membranes are thin tissues that line various cavities in the body and produce mucus, which helps to keep them moist and protected. These membranes are found in areas such as the mouth, nose, eyes, respiratory tract, digestive tract, and urogenital tract.

Causes of schleimhauttrauma can vary widely depending on the location of the affected membrane. In the mouth, trauma can result from biting the cheek or tongue, sharp or hot foods, or dental procedures. Nasal trauma might occur from forceful nose-blowing, nose picking, or foreign objects. Ocular trauma can be caused by direct impact, chemical splashes, or abrasive materials. In the gastrointestinal tract, it can be due to irritation from certain foods, infections, or medical interventions. Respiratory tract trauma could stem from inhalation of irritants or excessive coughing.

Symptoms of schleimhauttrauma depend on the severity and location of the injury. They can include pain, redness, swelling, bleeding, or a burning sensation. In some cases, a visible abrasion or ulcer may form. The healing process for mucous membranes is generally rapid due to their rich blood supply, but severe trauma can lead to complications such as infection or scarring, which might impair function. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, and treatment aims to alleviate symptoms, promote healing, and prevent infection, often with topical agents or by addressing the underlying cause.
