Scalewavers

Scalewavers are a genus of piranhas found in the Orinoco and Amazon river basins in South America. They are characterized by their slender, pointed snouts and long, sharp teeth. Scalewavers are members of the family Serrasalmidae, which comprises a group of armored catfish commonly known as piranhas.

There are several recognized species of Scalewavers, although their classification is not universally agreed upon by taxonomists. Some species of Scalewavers are specialized feeders, preying on scales and other soft tissues of their victims. This behavior is the likely origin of the name "Scalewavers". However, it is worth noting that Scalewavers are opportunistic feeders and will consume a wide variety of prey items, including crustaceans, fish, and even the scales and bones of their own kind.

Scalewavers are generally most active in surface waters, where they feed on small fish and other invertebrates. They are also capable of making short, effective raids on larger prey items, inflicting significant damage with their razor-sharp teeth. While Scalewavers are sometimes reported to be aggressive towards humans, such incidents are rare and usually occur in response to being provoked or handled improperly.

In the wild, Scalewavers can be found in a variety of environments, from the shallow waters of floodplains to the deeper, slower-moving streams of the Amazon. They are generally found in schools, and are occasionally kept in aquariums for the experienced aquarist.
