Satelliitkõlariteni, often referred to as satellite speakers, are small, compact loudspeakers designed to be used in a multi-channel audio system, most commonly as part of a home theater setup. Their primary purpose is to reproduce mid-range and high-frequency sounds, while the low-frequency bass response is typically handled by a separate subwoofer. This division of labor allows satellite speakers to be significantly smaller than full-range speakers, making them easier to place in a room and less visually intrusive.

The typical home theater system uses a 5.1 or 7.1 channel configuration, which includes front left and right speakers, a center channel speaker, and one or more surround speakers. In these configurations, the satellite speakers usually serve as the front left/right and surround channels. Their small size makes them ideal for mounting on walls, shelves, or stands, contributing to a more immersive sound experience without cluttering the living space.

When paired with a subwoofer, which is crucial for reproducing deep bass notes, satellite speakers can create a surprisingly full and dynamic audio landscape. The subwoofer handles the heavy lifting in the lower frequencies, allowing the satellites to focus on the more detailed mid and high frequencies. This separation often leads to clearer dialogue and more precise sound effects in movies and music. The effectiveness of a satellite speaker system relies heavily on the quality of both the satellite speakers themselves and the accompanying subwoofer, as well as proper system calibration.
